The gray is thinner than it looks
Homeowners put off calling because they assume a deck that color is finished. Usually it is not. What you are looking at is the top fraction of a millimeter of wood that the sun broke down and the dust settled into. Underneath, the boards are typically solid.
Getting that layer off is a matter of the right solution and enough patience to let it work. What we will not do is force it with pressure, because a Shelley deck that has been through fifteen freeze-thaw winters will not survive a wand held too close. Cleaning is the step that comes before any stain or sealer, and it decides how the rest of it goes.
Field on one side, river on the other. That combination is why Shelley decks age the way they do. Dust off the potato ground lands on the boards, moisture off the river keeps the shaded side from ever fully drying out, and the two together push wood gray faster than either would alone.
People here tend to notice it in late summer, when the yard is getting used and the deck is the one thing that looks tired. It cleans up. The gray is a surface layer, not the condition of the lumber, and taking it off is a cleaning job, not a rebuild.
Scope of a Shelley job
Small town, small lots, but the wood adds up once you count everything actually attached to the deck.
- Deck boards, including the damp north side
- Rails, spindles, posts, and stairs
- Deck skirting and visible framing
- Wood fencing and gates
- Pergolas and arbors
- Sprinkler mineral staining on fence and skirting bases

We get the glass all the way clean
Glass cleaned inside and out, with the hard water spotting lifted off underneath. Plenty of companies do a quick pass and leave the minerals behind, which is why those windows look clean for a week and then don't.
The right approach for every job
The right pressure and cleaning solution for every surface, from glass to siding, roofs, concrete, and weathered wood. The method is matched to the surface, so it cleans safely and lasts.
