Why Gate City houses go gray
High pressure looks like it is working. It is also driving water up under lap siding, through the seams around windows, and into the wall cavity, and on an older brick bungalow it will take paint off the trim and chew at the mortar. Pocatello has a lot of houses that have already been washed that way once. We do not do it.
Soft washing means the detergent does the work. We let it dwell, break down the film and the organic growth, then rinse at a pressure closer to a garden hose than a pressure washer. The grime leaves. The siding, the caulk, and the paint stay where they are.
