On a shingle roof the enemy is the granule surface itself: textured, holds a little water, and lichen bonds to it hard. That is why pressure washing a shingle roof is such a bad trade. You will get the lichen off and you will get the granules off with it, along with the warranty. Soft washing kills the growth at the root and leaves the surface intact.
On metal, the growth is less about the panel and more about the low spots. Needles and debris hang up in valleys and around penetrations, hold water against the seams, and moss takes root in the pile rather than the panel. Clearing that material is most of the job, and it does not take pressure either.
